3 Things You Need to Know Before Working Out (For Beginners)

While dragging yourself out of bed in the morning to go to the gym may be grueling sometimes, it’s always worth it. You get to work on improving yourself, you get to feel the exercise high and rush of endorphins while running or lifting weights—it’s pretty great once you get there!

Maybe the gym isn’t for you, and that’s okay! Some love the crisp air of a morning bike ride, others enjoy an afternoon run in the sun. Some even enjoy the peace and quiet of the park while doing yoga. No matter where you find yourself working out, and no matter what exercises you do, there are some things to consider before working out. Here are some tips to help you out.

What to Wear to the Gym

There are some pretty standard rules when it comes to working out in the gym. Bring a towel, bring your water bottle, you know the drill. But what you bring is just as important as what you wear! You wouldn’t wear jeans or a polo to the gym the same way you wouldn’t wear gym shorts or a workout t-shirt to work, but are you wearing the right workout shirt to the gym? Being comfortable at the gym is super important; if you’re not comfortable, you won’t want to exercise!

Are you wearing a breathable shirt to the gym to ensure maximum comfort while getting your cardio in, or are you wearing t-shirts that trap the sweat and the stench? The sweat is inevitable, but it’s better to wear a quick dry t-shirt than a plain old t-shirt; you’ll stay so much cooler! It’s easier to enjoy working out when you don’t feel gross, and our quick dry shirt solves that problem. Plus, it has a pocket!

Working Out in the Heat? Here’s What You Need

For those of you who prefer the outdoors and aren’t afraid to face the heat, hats off to you! If toasty temperatures don’t keep you from walking, running, bicycling, or doing whatever it is you do best, then you’re going to love this next tip.

Besides stretching, staying hydrated, and making sure you eat enough protein (which are all important things), you also need to feel your best to be your best! That’s why we recommend what we think is the best shirt for working out outside: the cotton t-shirt! Airy and breathable and a comfortable fit, this shirt is great for those who are constantly on the go. Simply throw your shirt in the wash after you’re done getting your sweat on—it won’t shrink!

Another great thing to consider wearing are sweat bands. When you’re at the gym you’ve got a towel, but when you get hot on the trail, you’ve got nothing to wipe away the sweat with! Sweat bands can come in really handy and can be worn around your wrists or forehead.

The Best Way to Workout in the Cold

If you work out in the cold, you are braver than most. The key to working out in the cold is dressing for success! The frigid air may sting your lungs, but it doesn’t have to sting the rest of you. Before going outside, consider where you get cold the most and prepare for the problem area.

If your hands get cold while exercising outside (let’s face it, whose hands don’t?), invest in a pair of heated gloves. You won’t have to worry about having cold hands or hot hands. Because there are three adjustable settings on these gloves, you’ll never over heat. You’ll be able to ride your bike or run all day with these! The fleece lining adds an extra layer of comfort as well!

We all know that working out gets us hot and sweaty, but when the sweat cools down on cold days? That’s another level of chilly you may not be prepared for! That’s why we recommend wearing the heated windbreaker, so you’ll never be too cold or too warm. With this jacket, you’ll be able to avoid frigid temperatures and wind chill! Plus, you can keep your phone charged with the battery pack, which is especially helpful if you like to listen to music while you exercise.
